Formative Actions

Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park (mural, 1947), by Diego Rivera (Google Arts & Culture). The painting summons the history and myth of several centuries to magically appear as people and things passing through Alameda Central park in Mexico City. Analogous to the way Resurgam summons past lives to digital screens.

This is the second newsletter of Resurgam NFP, the not-for-profit organization that kickstarts literary, artistic, and musical legacies in the digital age.

Are we the only one doing that in 2025? Maybe so! We haven’t conducted a worldwide search, but we also haven’t heard of others who have already tried what we’re now planning.

That said, others are doing similar things that inspire and instruct us in various ways. We list some of them in the By Comparison page of our new website. The page offers a quick survey of our analogs.

You have probably encountered the word analog on your path as an investor or donor (or both). For readers who haven’t: an analog is a demonstration of an innovative, risky venture’s feasibility and potential.

Some of our analogs are entertainment companies, others are academic institutions; most are using advanced technology to “un-fossilize” genius and masterwork of the past, in order to make them more responsive, experiential and relevant to people today.

In my opinion, genius never loses its relevance and usefulness, no matter how long ago it emerged. That said, the forms it took in bygone eras may make it seem dead and gone to us.

So we and some of our analogs are digitally renovating archaic forms and making those fossils spring back to life. Magic!

You can read about the analogs on our website, and email us about others we should know. While on the website, you can also read several other pages to get the big story of Resurgam.

Caveat: we’re still polishing the pages to make them as clear as possible, but even now you can get the idea.

In addition to launching a website, Resurgam recently joined Forefront here in Chicago. Forefront is an organization that helps not-for-profits get on their feet and eventually prosper. They have already helped Resurgam get better organized and make useful connections.

One such connection is Candid, an organization that embodies the Foundation Directory and Guidestar. All kinds of wisdom and practical advice flow from Candid, including the Seal of Transparency that you can see in the footer or our website.

Work in progress; more to come!

Thank you for reading this second newsletter of Resurgam. If you’re interested in our mission (for any reason), subscribe for free to receive updates. If you want a personal connection, email me.

If you simply cherish literature, art or music of yesterday, and technologies of today and tomorrow, know that here, you’re in good company.
